I
have just been diagnosed with lupus. Will I have symptoms continuously for the
rest of my life?
Lupus varies in its presentation from person to person. No
two individuals have the same features. The disorder may come on suddenly or
develop gradually. Some cases may be mild and others may be severe. Some
features may be temporary and others may be permanent. Lupus is a disorder that
occurs in episodes and these “flare ups” can come anytime. In between the flare
ups, you may feel fine, but during the acute illness, you may not feel great.
The only thing for sure is that lupus needs treatment
for life. It is a very unpredictable disorder and often difficult to treat. For most people with lupus, the quality of life is poor.
