Lupus and memory

I have had lupus for a few years. I have noticed that my concentration is poor and I often have loss of short-term memory. Is this part of the disease?

Yes, lupus can affect the brain and can cause a variety of mental affects. Depression is a common feature in most people with lupus. Others may develop anxiety, short-term memory loss, mood disturbances and lack of desire for everything. Even with treatment directed at lupus, some of the mental symptoms persist. If your symptoms are getting worse, it is best to seek some expert advice from a psychiatrist. Sometimes use of anti-depressants can help reverse the mood changes. Unfortunately as lupus progresses the mental symptoms do worsen with or without treatment.
