Lupus and weight gain

I am 26 and have just been diagnosed with lupus. Can lupus cause weight gain?

The symptoms of lupus depend on which organ in the body has been affected. In general, most people will have fatigue, low grade fever and weight loss. Lupus does take away the desire to eat and often weight gain is a result of the medications. While it is easy to recommend exercise to prevent weight gain, this can be difficult since the disorder tends to induce lethargy.

Most people with lupus feel so tired that they really do not feel like doing any type of exercise. Therefore, the best way to avoid weight gain is to at least walk regularly and eat right. If you do not take your medications, lupus can cause permanent damage to your body and even shorten your life span. There is nothing pleasant about lupus- it is a nasty disorder. Sorry these are the facts.
