Alcohol and blood sugars

I read that alcohol can lower blood sugars. Can I drink alcohol regularly since I am a diabetic?

Please, let me get some facts. Alcohol is a social beverage that has many repercussions if you take it in excess. It is not a replacement for your diabetic medications. There are lots of articles on alcohol and its blood sugar lowering properties. However, the effects are mild, inconsistent and unreliable.

In addition, long-term alcohol use can affect your brain, liver, pancreas and overall health; it is not a beverage I recommend for anyone.

If you are a diabetic you should educate yourself on this disorder as mucking around with it, will lead to heart, kidney and blood vessel disease. In addition, it can make you blind. There is no harm in drinking alcohol on a social basis, but I would not turn it into a regular habit and ruin the liver.
