Can DEET repel mosquitoes? I am about to travel
to a tropical country.
Depends on whom you ask and what you read. Personal
experience is that it may work for a few hours. Mosquitoes are hardy creatures
and just love the human body. So far, all repellants have not been effective.
The higher strength DEET is expensive and effective but does have a lingering
smell. Before you buy gallons of the spay or lotion, make sure you are not
allergic to the product- many cases reported where people have developed skin
rash.
I would highly recommend a mosquito net if you want to sleep
peacefully.
