I have no libido after being started on risperidol. Is there
something I can take?
Unfortunately, decrease in libido is a common adverse effect
of many medications, including antipsychotics. The problem is also very
difficult to solve. Changing the medication does not always work, as you may
have less libido but your psychotic features may not respond.
Decreasing the dose usually makes no difference. The manufacturers
of Viagra claim that this blue pill can help. However, more people seem to be
claiming that Viagra only makes a minor difference and then stops working.
My advice would be to try Revatio TM, which is a Viagra
analog. I would not buy a year’s supply, just a month. If that fails, Viagra is
not for you.
Sometimes switching to olanzapine does work. I would be
realistic and not keep hopes high. Decrease in libido is a universal complaint by
people on antipsychotics and there is no good solution.
