Is duloxetine the best antidepressant?
Duloxetine is a relatively new antidepressant, which is
heavily marketed by doctors and manufacturers. The manufacturers continually make
claims it is perhaps the best antidepressant. The clinical evidence indicates
that is it no better than other antidepressant. In fact, from the clinical
trials, it had more adverse effects that other antidepressant. It is also one
of the most expensive drugs.
Best advice; go for a generic SSRI and you will be fine. In
medicine, newer is not always better for the patient. The only people who
usually benefit from new medications are the providers and manufacturers.
