I am newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic. Will I develop kidney
disease with certainty?
All diabetics do not end up with renal failure, but a significant number do. The best advice I can give is ensure good control of your diabetes. ACE inhibitors have been proven to protect the kidney in diabetics. You should discuss this class of drugs with your doctor. In the meantime, avoid weight gain, do not smoke and walk regularly. Other than that, not much you can do.
