Can hypnosis be used to treat schizophrenia?
The short answer is No. Studies conducted have shown no benefit of hypnosis in schizophrenics. Moreover, hypnosis is not practical. If you have an out of control schizophrenic who is paranoid, angry, hallucinating, aggressive- do you think this person is going to sit down and chit chat with a hypnotist? In the ED, we usually have to restrain these patients with medications and physical restrains until they calm down.
Hypnosis is a bogus treatment looking for
something it can cure- so far it only seems to be attracting gullible people
who are too stupid to realize that it is a fraud.
