I was recently prescribed Savella for my fibromyalgia. Does this pill work?
Savella is also known as milnacipran and has just gotten approval by the FDA. From the few studies, it appears that the drug is better than a sugar pill in relieving symptoms of fibromyalgia. Savella is often prescribed for depression and may have the ability to block pain receptors. The starting does of savella is about 50 mg a day, and this is gradually increased to 100 mg twice day. Unfortunately, the drug does not provide pain relief in everyone. Savella is prohibitively expensive, and does have side effects like weight gain and dry mouth.
