Zinc for Diabetic Ulcers

I am a diabetic and have an ulcer on my leg. Recently my alternative healthcare provider recommended use of zinc. Is this helpful?

Zinc, like other minerals, is now being touted to cure everything under the sun. Deficiency of zinc in America is extremely rare. Most people get ample zinc from the diet and the need to take supplements is ZERO.

Many alternative healthcare providers recommend zinc tablets to heal ulcers on the body. There are even zinc pastes available. Let me give you one piece of good advice. Before you lose your leg, better see a bona fide real doctor. If you are a diabetic, you should not be seeing these fools. You need to have your leg pulses monitored; you need protection of your feet and ensure you have no neuropathy.

All this zinc stuff is okay, but diabetes is a complex disorder and even a minor mistake can easily cause a fiord infection, with loss of limb. So, apply the zinc, but see a real doctor and get your leg pulses checked first. I have been involved in countless cases where diabetics have lost their toes or limbs because these wanna be doctors never assessed the blood supply.
